Fishing Time in 2020

Etienne Admin |10 Jan, 2020 | 0 Comments | Return|

Happy New Year to all, and my wishes to everybody are to go fishing more. More days equals more opportunities. This year we celebrate ten years of service bringing people to bigger and better fish, having opened in 2010. It will be a pleasure to host my existing clients, and meet new ones again.

Our off the grid power is stable, and we always have ice and cold beer.

Please note our focus is still groups and we can accommodate up to 12 fishermen at a time. We will tailor make a schedule for your requirements. Speak to me by calling, or on email: [email protected]

January and February are the hottest months, and also Hurricane season. In the twenty years I have been around at the lodge, we were hit once, in February 2017. Nobody would like a repeat of that, even me. January is also our rainy month, with the most rain usually recorded. The good news is that Cuta are around in numbers, with sailfish. Trevally/ Kingfish are year round and also found in these months, mostly on the jig, or with a spear gun.

February is also Billfish Grand Slam fishing time in Watamu, Kenya, and this year there will be 3 groups of 3, who have booked 4 days a piece fishing on a 35ft Marlin boat. With 12 continuous days in the best time of the year for marlin, we should get a great chance at a Grand Slam this year. More details on the Kenya trip are in the blog. I’ll keep you guys updated, but watch the instagram feed from Kenya starting on the 12th Feb, till the 26th Feb. I’ll be posting photos and video as we go along. Once again, it promises to be EPIC.

Spearfishing Mozambique and Deep-sea Fishing Mozambique around this time of year is generally good, with it peaking when the water gets a bit colder in March and April. Right now the water is up to 28 deg C, which is a little hot.

In March and April the tuna come with the slightly colder water, and they bring the marlin with them.

One of the boats is currently placed up at Pomene, so we can now offer our guests something different. Pomene is 90km north of Silver Fish Lodge, and offers excellent spearfishing and deep-sea fishing. Reefs for spearfishing are around the 15m depth, so a lot more manageable for less experienced divers. Fly-in is to Vilanculos airport (a direct flight from Johannesburg, South Africa), where I will collect you. Accommodation is more basic than at Silver Fish Lodge, but adequate for a good night’s rest. I recommend Pomene for Spearos- lots of trevally, and some big GT’s (Giant trevally’s).

We can also fish up to Pomene, overnight one or two days, and fish back, depending on weather.

May and June are probably the most comfortable months to come, with not so much heat and humidity. Bigger fish are around, although not in as many numbers as earlier in the year. Wind is also not such a factor, and generally it’s just a lot more comfortable out there.

We will fish until around the 15th July, and then reopen again in September for the sailfish, wahoo and tuna season. August I will be on walkabout.

Those of you wishing to come the December season, get your reservations in early. Limited space and its always very popular between the 20th Dec and the 3rd January. Those wanting to go to Lazarus Banks (offshore Pemba), from September till December, or the Primeiras e Segundas (5 islands off Pebane) , from may till July need to move fast to get the best weeks.Speak to me, I will facilitate the trip.

Come fishing, it will add years to your life.
