Mozambique Fishing and Spearfishing, Pomene, Primieras and Segundos Islands (Ilha Fogo, Pantaloon, Acorn and Davide shoal),Lazarus banks and Bazaruto Island……tours, 2018

2018 has arrived, and the new year’s planning should start now to get the best weeks.

I will be away on tour for six months next year from www.silverfishlodge.co.za in various places.

Fishing on FV Bounty, starting with Pomene beginning of March, and going through to end April. Pomene is a great place for spearfishing and Deepsea fishing, mostly because it has a lot of game fish and one always has a chance on a Bill fish. Line Fishermen love the popping, stick baiting, and jigging that the place as to offer, whilst the Spearos love the shallow reef systems with plenty reef between 12-25m.

The disadvantage is access to the place, with bad roads, and poor ice facilities, bad logistics and bad cell phone reception. You are remote. Accommodation is simple, but clean and adequate- food is excellent. Here we do 5 and more night’s packages, up to 10 fishermen/Spearos. We currently have only two weeks in April still available. 6th April until the 12th, and 21st April until the 30th.

I love the place. Its situated 58 miles north from Silverfishlodge, Inhambane, and most places to fish are close by…. FV Bounty and Raptor will both be there to assist.

I’m back at Silver Fish Lodge the beginning of May, with a regular group organised by Richard Kitchens, to fish out of Silver Fish lodge for a week. The other week is still available.

15th May we head north 400 miles to north of Quelimane (2 berths are available on Bounty- will take 3 days and we are fishing the whole way at 6/7 knots- enquire within if you want to come along for this trip). There are 2 flights per week from Maputo airport to Quelimane via Lam.co.mz, and once again, logistics and travel is confined and difficult. Here, from Pantaloon shoal, we have a reef system of 160 km long. It includes 4 shoals, which come up to 10m- much like Lazarus, and deep water close by for Billfish.  It also has 5 uninhabited islands which have no real purpose, except maybe to hide behind in bad weather……. This place is like Pomene, except more remote, less fished, and has more reefs to explore. Here we must go liveaboard, or a combination of liveaboard and land based accommodation. Wahoo and GT up to 55 kgs have been caught here in the past. Marlin and most other gamefish are around.

We are doing 3-day offshore liveaboard trips, with a day back on land to restock provisions and fuel, with another 3-day offshore trip- total 7 days.

We are doing either spearfishing, or Rod and Reel fishing tours, and can collect you either at Quelimane airport, or arrange a transfer to a land based lodge close to the fishing grounds. We have availability for groups of 4/5. At this stage, there are already 4 groups that have expressed interest, and we will be finalising the dates and deposits early January 2018.

Spearfishing- we are targeting big GT, and Dogtooth Tuna. Line fishermen, we are targeting GT’s, Wahoo, Tuna and Sailfish and Marlin, and will be deep jigging for Dogtooth Tuna as well. It’s going to be EPIC!

Mid July to end August I’m going walkabout.

October and November is once again time for Lazarus Banks, 70 miles out of Pemba. You need to get your deposits and bookings in early so that you can get the best weeks. Historically, the best weeks are in November. Here, we will be fishing on a sister yacht, which can take 8….

I will also be doing the marlin Season off Bazaruto/ Inhassoro during October and November 2018, although this is for Marlin fishing only.

Bassas Da India is off limits at present, as the French are chasing everyone away- after they confiscate your fishing equipment……. It is currently a no take zone, and not worth the frustration.

See you soon out there on the water…. tight lines.
