Spring 2015, Sailfish time

The weather is starting to get warmer with Spring just around the corner. With this change in seasons other fish start showing up- these include Trevelly, Prodigal sons (cobia) , most of the Tuna species (Bullet, Skipjack, Bonito and yellowfin Tuna), Dorado, Schoaling Cuta and Sailfish. In November the Marlin come. September is always a good time for those of you wanting to catch Sailfish.

Of course, when the water starts warming from 24 Deg C now back to 26 Deg C, then it clears up and goes back to aqua blue colour with much better visability. This would interest the spearos, because then they can see better. Water right now is a greenish colour with a lot of plankton, some of it dead and causing slicklines to appear on the surface. In a couple of weeks the vis will improve.

Whales are still here in numbers, and they will start going back to the Antarctic around October.

We had a reasonable winter with some fish around, but not the numbers we have been used to. We had good Sailfish and Cuta catches, with Dorado and bigger Yellowfin Tuna further out. The season was slow, in line with the cold, and as soon as the weather started getting better, the enquiries started coming in for the summer.

We still have some space available before Christmas time in the December school holiday, so get your plans in order, and reserve your accommodation ASAP. Early bird catches the worm.
